The lignin content measured either by the acetyl bromide method or as the relative yields of the lignin-derived thioacidolysis monomers showed highly significant reductions (>50%) in all RNAi lines, which also showed increased H-lignin subunit levels, with the largest increases found for the BdHCT1i (220%), BdC3′ H1i (140%), and BdPTAL1i (104%) lines compared with WT ( Figure 1B ).
