This was highly significant considering the suggested fraction of active TEs (<1%) in mammalian genomes ( Beck et al., 2010 ; Mills et al., 2007 ), which was also consistent with the percentage of TEs expressed above our cutoff filters (LINEs, 0.47%; LTRs, 0.75%; and SINEs, 1.2%).
