There is an increasing trend in the last five years to use translational large animal models, such as pigs and Rhesus monkeys, to simulate the real-life intensive care received by EPIs, including but not limited to antenatal steroids, surfactant, caffeine, protective ventilation strategies, and nutritional support [ 102 , 103 , 104 ].
