According to the mapping graphic analysis of the obtained kaolinite, chlorite and illite contents, the distribution of kaolinite shows an obvious trend of decreasing from the nearshore to the sea, and the high values are mainly distributed in the Pearl River Estuary and the west coast.

The sedimentation rate in the survey area is characterized by a decreasing trend from the inner Pearl River Estuary to the offshore area; also, the deposition rate in coastal area is larger than that in the offshore area in the eastern and western of Pearl River Estuary, and there is a slightly high deposition rate area in the eastern Qiongzhou Strait.
