The increase in the relative abundance of Pusillimonas after the drying-rewetting events, especially later for the air-dried samples, suggests that acetolactic bacteria might have competed temporally with acetoclastic methanogens (in our case Methanosarcina) for acetate, especially when the latter was inhibited.
