Weather data reconstructed from the records of δ 18 O in ice cores in the Himalayas and tree rings worldwide exhibit a highly significant correlation with the average temperature and can be used as a metric to assess climate change in the Northern Hemisphere (Shi et al., 2015 ; Zhao et al., 2014 ).
