As shown by the 11 to 14 perfectly matching results of reference testing and the diagnostic NGS approach as well as by the highly significant positive correlation of the Plasmodium spp.-specific NGS read proportion with parasitemia and the similarly good negative correlation with genus-specific Ct-values, hypothesis-free metagenomic diagnosis of malaria was confirmed to be feasible.
