Although the mRNA expression of S100A1 was upregulated by Pg broth treatment, the effect of S100A1 on electrophysiological abnormalities may not be significant, as high myocardial S100A1 overexpression does not cause cardiac arrhythmia or impairment of contractile function in vivo . 29 Collectively, these results suggest that Pg broth induces cardiac arrhythmia by altering Ca 2+ homeostasis.
