Although the Italian demersal trawl fleet was not in the balance category for 2018, a decreasing trend emerged for SHI 13 (meaning progress has been made toward achieving balance) for the 2012–2018 period for all the trawl fleet segments (−9%), specifically for boats included in the length class of 12–18 m (−18%), one of the two most funded segments under Art. 34 ( Figure 8 ).

Figure 9 reports the EDI trend for the Italian demersal trawlers for the 2014–2018 period highlighting a small decrease (-6%) for demersal trawlers longer than 12 m and an increasing trend only for trawlers in the smallest length class.
