A recent longitudinal study showed an increasing trend in prevalence rates of all investigated respiratory symptoms and obstructive chronic diseases: in particular, current asthma attacks increased from 3.4% to 7.2% and COPD diagnosis increased from 2.1% to 6.8%, more than doubling in a period of 25 years, and asthma diagnosis prevalence increased, though not significantly, from 6.7% to 7.8%, [ 3 ].
