The decline in dengue-related claims observed in 2020 in this database followed an overall trend seen in several dengue-endemic countries and could be a result of restrictive measures imposed by the SARS-COV 2 pandemic. 29 In addition, the nature of the data allowed us to generate a reliable estimate of the hospitalization cost for dengue, since they are not based on preestablished packages or composite costs, common payment practices in the SUS (the public Unified Health System).
