The detection rate of cytologically malignant nodules among all participants was 0.039% for the first-round survey, 0.026% for the second-round survey, and 0.015% for the third-round survey, with a decreasing trend as the number of examinations increased (Table 4 ). 18 Age-dependent increases in the detection rate of cytologically malignant nodules were observed in all rounds of surveys. 18 The incidence rate of cytologically diagnosed thyroid cancer in the second-round survey in each age group was calculated from the intervals between the two examinations for participants who had undergone both the first- and second-round surveys. 19 This study also showed an increase in the incidence rate of cytologically malignant nodules in parallel with the age at examination.
