Allen et al .’s study ( Allen & Wilsher 2012 ) did find that the per-mating pregnancy rate was significantly lower following 1 or more days of sexual rest compared to those where a mating had occurred at least once the day preceding, suggesting that it is the frequency of breeding rather than book size which may be significant ( Allen et al. 2007 ).
