The idea of Farner and Lee ( 2017 ) to evaluate global correlations by redistributing the global arc data set into artificially defined elevation bins is a noteworthy alternative to the standard approach not only because it minimizes the uncertainties associated with crustal thickness, which may be significant for many arc segments used in the standard approach, but also because the correlations obtained this way are less likely to be affected by local geochemical anomalies.
