The self-reported race and ethnicity are strictly socio-cultural characteristics that might be related to only certain processes of racialisation: primarily neuronal, institutional, socio-cultural or environmental, and even between these levels there may be significant differences between the way a person is classified at the moment (e.g., their sense of belonging to folk categories and their official racial or ethnic affiliation according to institutional categories) and how it affects their health.
