Moreover, it would be important to highlight that although the common comorbidities leading to severe disease in high-income countries (diabetes, hypertension, and other cardiovascular diseases) were also common amongst patients admitted to the ICU in the present setting (despite being less prevalent in the general public), they were not significantly predictive of mortality when considered in the model (although asthma and increased BMI may be worth noting as trending toward significance).
