Regular follow-up examinations until 1 year after surgery showed a decreasing trend in the number of patients with TMD symptoms. 16 The same tendency was seen in a large group of 170 patients, where the number of patients experiencing TMD symptoms decreased over 2 years after surgery. 17 The follow-up periods in these studies were far shorter than the 6.5-year follow-up in this report, which makes it unique and significant, and this longer follow-up period enabled a more comprehensive evaluation of the patient.
