In general, the synthetic bone used (OSTEON, 30% hydroxyapatite, and 70% ß-tricalcium phosphate) has the tendency to be brighter than the local autobone on CT scans, and this could affect reliability and bridging scores; however, the differences were almost insignificant. 7 Some preoperative coronal deformities in operated level would have led to greater compressive forces in the concave side to affect the fusion processing, but there were no difference of coronal deformities (5 degrees or more) on preoperative standing radiograph in our subjects (right concave: 23 cases, left concave: 20 cases, and parallel: 22 cases).
