The personal and clinical characteristics of the mothers and infants did not differ between the groups ( table 1 ), except for a higher number of fetuses with bradycardia in the near infrared spectroscopy group and a higher number of male infants in the control group, although both were of borderline significance (P=0.05 and P=0.06, respectively).
