Given the marked gene set reduction and structural conservation among nematodes, we elected to explore HRG-1 in the socioeconomically highly significant parasitic nematode, Haemonchus contortus (barber’s pole worm), which is quite closely related to the model organism C . elegans (both being within clade V), allowing for comparative and complementary investigations.
