There was a correlation between the ATP-linked respiration of these rats and their heart performance detected through echocardiography: hApoE2 groups showed an increasing trend, while hApoE3 groups showed a decreasing trend. hApoE2 cardiomyocytes showed higher maximal respiration as well, especially compared to that of hApoE3 cells ( Figure 4 D 4 ), indicating hApoE2 cardiomyocytes may have robust ability to maximize the mitochondrial β-oxidation.
