We also found a marginally significant effect of menarche age on WC, indicating that the mean changes of WC in women with late menarche age were lower than those with normal menarche age (− 1.66 cm; 95% CI − 3.46, 0.14; P = 0.070); this marginal effect remained after adjusting for potential confounders (− 1.72 cm; 95% CI − 3.50, 0.07; P = 0.059).
