Two clusters were found in the Pulicaris group CAR model residuals with p-values only just below the significance level (p=0.0375 and 0.0427).

However, at low contrasts we observed a slight increase in the response rate from 33.9 spk/s to 35.7 spk/s a difference that is just below the significance level (paired t-test, p = 0.04).

This could be due to a few outliers in our small sample of participants, since in both cases the p-values were just below the significance level ( p ≈ 0.04 ).

Because published effect sizes are likely overestimated, comparative cognition researchers should not expect findings with p -values just below the significance level to replicate consistently.
