Firstly, aqueous acidity measurements (p K a ) were undertaken ( via the 1 H NMR titration method), 18 which revealed a clear trend whereby increasing acidity of the conjugate acid ( i.e. , p K a 11.5 to 9.7) correlated with increasing geometrical strain ( i.e. , 27 to 4).
