Adults with diabetes on more aggressive treatments showed a trend toward severe hyposmia/anosmia in the pocket smell test, without an association between disease duration and self-reported symptoms. 26 There were no differences in an objective odor test between patients with and without chronic complications of diabetes. 27 The slightly increased autonomic load in our sample might be explained, at least partially, by diabetes.
