These differences were mostly explained by six individual pathogens showing seasonal differences in prevalence ( Table 1 ): EAEC, ETEC, Cryptosporidium , adenovirus, astrovirus and rotavirus ( Fig 3 ); a seasonal variation was also observed with Campylobacter , yet it did not reach statistical significance (58.3% versus 48.9%, p = 0.056).
