The only randomized controlled trial comparing simultaneous and staged liver resection showed a trend toward a worse prognosis for staged resection in comparison to simultaneous resection, and simultaneous resection might be preferable if it can be performed safely. 12 On the other hand, it is necessary to note the presence of subclinical metastasis that cannot be evaluated with simultaneous resection, and staged resection can have the advantage of facilitating the evaluation of the oncological behavior of CRC.
