We then investigated whether the observed poor response to PGC-1α induction and altered PRDX3/PFKFB3 correlation, had detectable impact on PBMCs’ mtDNA copy number and found that although the differences among hyperplasias and carcinoma patients did not reach statistical significance ( p = 0.08), patients with carcinoma subjects had lower levels of mtDNA per cell.
