Our data showed that DPP4i was the most widely prescribed glucose-lowering drug among patients taking monotherapy, which reflected a strong trend toward DPP4i prescription reported in Japan [ 31 , 32 ], whereas European and US guidelines at the time of this study recommended the use of metformin along with first-line treatment [ 33 , 34 ].
