It is noteworthy that the subgroup of patients with prematurely terminated isoflurane, and in particular those experiencing an elevated P aCO 2, had a significantly higher peak inspiratory pressure, lower lung compliance, and showed a trend towards higher ventilator minute volume in the period -24 h to -1 h prior to the implementation of the ACD when compared with the patients with continued isoflurane sedation ( Table 5 , Supplementary Table S1 ).
