In serum, levels of EPA (patients 0.47 wt%, 0.23–1.05; controls 0.55 wt%, 0.37–0.67; p = 0.0522) showed a trend to be lower in BO patients and, as shown in the sputum the AA : DHA ratio was significantly higher in the BO group compared to the control group (patients 4.40, 2.43–5.96; controls 3.52, 2.76–3.70; p < 0.05).
