The gene expression levels of Mef2c , a primary target silenced by HDAC4 and HDAC5, were significantly reduced in mdx GC muscle, and a clear trend toward reduction was found in D2 mdx mice ( Fig. 6 ), in line with the low phosphorylation levels of HDAC4 and HDAC5 previously described ( Fig. 5 ).
