Current evidence reports that melatonin treatment may have little or no influence on later pubertal development after 2–4 years of treatment, whereas one study showed a trend towards a delay in pubertal development in participants who on average had been treated with melatonin for 7.1 years. 65 This may indicate that the length of treatment is essential when it comes to the impact on pubertal development in young individuals.
