This approach enables: (i) parallel acquisition of two diffraction limited images within the three-dimensional scene of interest, (ii) single-lens light-field imaging , which is quite significant considering the disadvantages and physical limitations connected with the use of micro-lenses (i.e., resolution loss and reduced 3D imaging capability), (iii) a DOF enhancement by over 1 order of magnitude, without sacrificing diffraction-limited resolution.
