Comparing the maximum changes in pH over the first minute, 20 m m HEPES (ΔpH = 0.19 ± 0.05, N = 9) reduced alkalization but did not reach statistical significance when compared with the 20 s stimulation controls in 10 m m HCO 3 (ΔpH = 0.28 ± 0.16, N = 13; H = 4.32, p = 0.155, Kruskal–Wallis test; Fig. 3 E ).
