Sub-analysis of the samples based on storage time (N = 4 for both groups) showed that for the one-month-stored samples only, significantly higher CFU counts were found in the anaerobic processing conditions compared with the aerobic conditions, whereas differences in the two-years-stored samples did not reach statistical significance ( Supplementary Figure S1a,b ).
