The formation of Cu(OH) 2 is quite significant since several reports have indicated that the formation of Cu(OH) 2 is directly related to enhanced release of ROS as well as increased amounts of Cu ions, as shown in previous studies, to exhibit the antibacterial effects by disrupting ATP production and impairing bacterial cell wall. 8 , 9 , 16 , 19 , 20 The formation of AgO is also significant as AgO has been reported to exhibit superior antibacterial activity relative to other Ag phases. 50 To further confirm the production of ROS species, we performed methylene blue degradation experiments on both bare Ag and Ag–Cu samples.
