Resting energy expenditure (VO 2 ) measured at 22 o C in HFD-fed mice prior to emergence of a body weight difference trended higher in Tmem135 TG mice, but the effects did not reach statistical significance (Supplementary Fig. 5e, f ), reflecting the fact that indirect calorimetry is not sufficiently sensitive to detect subtle changes in energy expenditure that impact body weight over a prolonged period 39 , 40 .
