The reaction of octanal with 2-phenyl acrylates differently substituted at the aromatic ring showed a trend of increasing yield with more electron-rich substrates, the 4-MeO-substituted product 2i being obtained in better yield (57%) than electron-neutral 2e (42%) and electron-deficient 2f – c (36% and 39%, respectively).
