Overall, the rates of respiratory infections showed a trend of decline during the years of the global COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2022), probably associated with reduced transmission with the implementation of containment directives such as lockdowns, various social distancing measures, and extensive utilisation of face masks [ 9 , 10 ].
