In samples from those with scarring, lysozyme, IL-10 and CXC chemokines IL-8 and CXCL1 were significantly increased (p = 0.016, 0.046, 0.016, and 0.037 respectively, mixed effects logistic regression) while IP-10 and lactoferrin fell just short of significance (p = 0.093 and 0.074 respectively).
Analysing all timepoints together in an unpaired analysis, there was a marked trend towards higher CXCL1, IL-8, IP-10 and lactoferrin during infection.
