Although these differences also did not reach statistical significance in our study, these MRI‐defined factors are known to be associated with poor survival outcomes. 30 In fact, Lord et al showed that using MRI‐based prognostic risk factors (e.g., EMVI, tumor deposits [TD], and MRF) resulted in better predictions of outcomes than more traditional TNM staging. 31 Our results add to the growing evidence of the benefits of utilizing MRI‐based prognostic factors like mrEMVI status in the management of rectal cancer.
