In this study, the difference in outcome for patients >10 years at transplantation did not reach statistical significance, while an Italian study of 30 patients (1990–2012) showed significantly better outcomes for patients younger than 10 years old with all transplantation-related deaths occurring in the older patients [ 21 ], who had severe iron overload before transplantation.
