A possible explanation of these phenomena is that cells derived from knockout mice had much more time to compensate for the aberrantly high contractility produced by the downregulation of vimentin, as compared with relatively short-term vimentin depletion in cultured cells, in which the level of blebbing showed an upward trend even at basal level although it did not reach statistical significance.
