High dietary fats as a part of the HFD upregulated genes that support fatty acid oxidation, such as carnitine palmitoyltransferase Ib ( Cpt1b ) and phosphate carrier Slc25a3 (imports of phosphate into the mitochondrial matrix), as well as mitochondrial dysfunction via BCL2/adenovirus E1B interacting protein 3 ( Bnip3 ) in the near-significant 1.84- to 1.92-fold range ( Figure 5 a).
