Surprisingly, in the presence of GMR in trans , Beta-galactosidase staining showed a trend almost completely opposite to that shown by mini-white derived from the identical insertions; specifically, the 2 P{lacW} insertions in the 5′ UTR of GstS1-B now showed robust Beta-galactosidase staining, whereas the 2 insertions furthest upstream of GstS1-B showed little to no detectable change in Beta-galactosidase levels.
