In the present study, the contents of carotenoids and fucoxanthin showed a trend of increasing and then decreasing in all groups, which may be attributed to the increase in cell density in the later stages of cultivation and the inter-cellular shading effect that reduces the uptake of light energy, which in turn reduces the rate of synthesis of carotenoids and fucoxanthin.
