Newly-onset renal impairment, defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) <45 mL/min/1.73 m 2 , was reduced by 21% [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.66–0.96] and new-onset macroalbuminuria was also reduced by 19% (95% CI 0.66–0.01), albeit of marginal significance [ 34 ].
