The ESCAPe randomised clinical trial assessing severe CAP showed that a prolonged administration of a low dose of methylprednisolone did not significantly reduce 60-day mortality [ 107 ] but the result may have failed to reach statistical significance merely because of the early termination of recruitment [ 108 ].
