Interestingly, the mortality rate amongst patients with liver cirrhosis and splanchnic vein thrombosis was higher amongst those who did not receive anticoagulation ( p = 0.006) and similar for re-bleeding from oesophageal varices but it did not reach statistical significance [ 14 ].
